Bridge of Lies

The Bridge of Lies is one of the most important symbols of Sibiu.
Bridge of Lies

Reconstructed in 1859, is the first cast iron bridge from  Romania. Because it was also the first that was not built on piles, it was called the "lying bridge". In the German language, the word "lying down" (lugenmarchen) was the homonym of the word "lie" and it began to be called by the locals "the bridge of lies", which is where the legends justifying its name appeared.

The bridge has two lovely legends. One says that if you stand on the bridge and tell a lie, the bridge will start to shake. Or if you tell a lie standing under the bridge, the bridge will collapse on you. Another legend says that on this bridge, cheated buyers by dishonest traders had the right to throw them off the bridge to the laughter of the crowd.
