Great Tour of Romania - 2 Weeks Private Tour
Great chance to explore Romania in two weeks. Transylvania, Maramures, Bucovina and Danube Delta will reveal themselves to you. This is a complete tour of Romania with the most beautiful sites to be visited!
Day 1
On the first day of your private tour in Romania, we meet at your hotel in Bucharest and set off for the Danube Delta. We are heading to Tulcea City, where we will arrive after a 3 and a half hour drive. Another hour by boat and we arrive in the heart of the Danube Delta in Crisan Village. A delicious home cooked lunch awaits us. After we rest, in the afternoon, we are ready for the first adventure in the Danube Delta - the first boat trip to admire a spectacular sunset on the lakes and canals of the Danube Delta. A fantastic photo opportunity.
OVERNIGHT IN THE DANUBE DELTA
Day 2
After breakfast, we will explore deeper the wild Danube Delta. This time we will have a longer boat trip. We will see a lot of birds and animals from the Delta, we will enjoy spectacular scenery on the canals and lakes of the Danube Delta. After 3 hours by boat, we stop in a remote village from the Delta where we will taste the traditional cuisine. A local lady will cook for us a traditional lunch based on an old recipe from the area. After lunch, we enjoy another two hours of the wild Danube Delta, and then we arrive at the hotel. In the afternoon you can enjoy the pool and relax.
OVERNIGHT IN THE DANUBE DELTA
Day 3
A longer day driving today. We are heading to Moldova, one of the historical provinces of Romania. In the afternoon we arrive in the beautiful city of Iasi where we will have a walking tour. You will learn about the long history of wars with the army of the Ottoman Empire.
OVERNIGHT IN IASI
Day 4
The northern part of Moldova is the famous Bucovina, the place where the Unesco World Heritage Painted Churches are located. Today we will visit two: Humor and Voronet, famous for the frescoes on the exterior walls. More than five centuries old, these churches are a testimony of the faith of the locals who were in permanent danger due to the expansion of the Ottoman Empire.
Voronet Painted Church is also called the Sistine Chapel of the East due to the impressive fresco of the Last Judgment. Built in less than four months, Voronet was built at the request of the most important ruler of Moldova, Stephen the Great.
OVERNIGHT IN BUCOVINA
Day 5
In the morning we visit a local lady who paints Easter eggs, an old tradition from the area. You will have the opportunity to actually see how the eggs are painted and even participate in the painting of Easter eggs. After this experience, we will hit the road and cross the Carpathians to reach Maramures, the most traditional area of Romania. The first stop will be at the Barsana Monastery, a monastic complex located in a very beautiful area. We reach the beautiful village of Breb, one of the best preserved villages in Maramures. After a rest, we take a relaxed walk through the village, and then we will taste the traditional local cuisine. A local lady from the village will cook dinner for us.
OVERNIGHT IN MARAMURES
Day 6
Today we discover the rural life of Maramures, an extraordinary opportunity to take a trip back in time, off the beaten path. Maramures is the area of Romania where the archaic way of farming is still preserved. The place where traditions are best preserved, and locals are the most hospitable in Romania.
We will visit a local family that still has an old peasant installation with which they earn their living. We will see in action the whirlpool, the carding machine, the loom and the distillery where they produce the famous plumb brandy, called “horinca”.
A top attraction in Maramures are the wooden churches. We visit the Wooden Church from Desesti, as well as the Merry Cemetery from Sapanta. Here you will find out how the locals relate to death: not as something tragic and definitive, but rather as a transition to a better life in Paradise.
Maramures also offers extraordinarily beautiful natural landscapes, so it is an excellent opportunity for photos. In the afternoon, we return to the village, and in the evening we enjoy another home cooked dinner in the village.
OVERNIGHT IN MARAMURES
Day 7
It is time to say goodbye to Maramures and we are heading towards the center of the country, in Transylvania. After 3 hours of driving, we arrive in the largest city of Transylvania, Cluj Napoca. It is also the largest university center after Bucharest, so it is a vibrant city with an Old Town full of restaurants, bars and cafes. We will do a walking tour in Cluj and stop for lunch.
OVERNIGHT IN CLUJ
Day 8
Close to Cluj, 45 minutes drive, we reach one of the most spectacular salt mines in Europe. Turda Salt Mine is a top travel destination of Romania. After visiting the Turda Salt Mine, the next stop will be in Alba Iulia, the birthplace of Great Kingdom of Romania after the First World War. We take a walking tour in the Citadel and learn about the history of the creation of today's Romania.

Sibiu is a perfect place for a relaxed walk in the Old Town.

It is one of the most spectacular roads of Europe and crosses the Carpathians at an altitude of over 2000 meters, offering enchanting views. Plenty of time for photos and an easy hike to the Balea Glacier Lake. After having lunch at Balea Chalet, we return to Sibiu.
OVERNIGHT IN SIBIU
Day 10
We go deeper into Transylvania and discover the Saxon Villages, an excellent opportunity to learn about the history of the first Saxons who arrived in Transylvania more than 900 years ago. We make a stop in the charming Biertan Saxon Village, where we visit the 500-year-old Fortified Church, a Unesco World Heritage Site. A home cooked lunch awaits us in another Saxon village, a perfect opportunity to taste the Transylvanian cuisine. After lunch, we arrive in Sighisoara Citadel, a small jewel of Transylvania. Walking Tour in the Citadel where you will find out the true story of Vlad the Impaler. The real Vlad the Impaler, also known as "Dracula" was born in Sighisoara, and we will tell you his true story.
OVERNIGHT IN SIGHISOARA
Day 11
Your Private Guided Tour in Transylvania continues and today we arrive in the most famous Saxon village, Viscri. It is the favorite place of King Charles of Great Britain. You walk through Viscri and learn about the story of King Charles and this remote village from Transylvania. We visit the Fortified Church of Viscri, and then we head to the beautiful Brasov Medieval City. It is a city with a centuries-old history and one of the most beautiful cities in Romania, an ideal place for spending quality time.
OVERNIGHT IN BRASOV
Day 12
A day trip from Brasov takes us to Zarnesti, the place where the Bear Sanctuary is located. The story of this special place tells us how over 100 brown bears were rescued and resettled in a forest. We have the opportunity to learn about the sad stories of the bears, but with a happy end.
The next stop is to visit the famous Bran Castle. Built on a high rock, on the border between two historical provinces of today's Romania, Bran Castle has been guarding the area for over six centuries. You will find out the true story of the Castle, as well as about Count Dracula and how this castle came to be a source of inspiration for the Irish writer Bram Stoker.
A special experience in the area is to admire the Carpathians from a remote mountain village - fantastic views. After an hour of driving, we arrive back in Brasov.
OVERNIGHT IN BRASOV
Day 13
The last stop on the way back to Bucharest is in Sinaia, a wonderful mountain town. It is also the place where the first King of Romania, Carol the First, decided to build the Summer Residence of the Royal Family. Peles Castle will impress you with its spectacularity, but also with its location, at the foot of the Carpathians. We will share with you the history of the royal family of Romania, as well as the dark years Romania went through during the communist regime.
We have lunch in a charming restaurant in Sinaia and in the afternoon we arrive in Bucharest. A relaxed walking tour in Bucharest will take us through the Old Town, Victory Avenue and Revolution Square. We stop for a nice dinner in the Old Town.
