Celebrate Easter in Maramures!
One of the most special experiences that a traveler can have in Romania is to spend Easter in Maramures. It is, without a doubt, the area where the traditions are best preserved and where the locals are proud of their history.
Easter is the most important religious celebration, and locals prepare well in advance. In addition to spiritual preparation, some of the traditions are related to the preparation of dishes for the festive Easter meal. On the Thursday before Easter, eggs are painted. The locals prefer to use the red color from boiling red onions. They use nylon stockings and put various leaves to appear on the painted eggs. Our guests participate together with the locals in painting the eggs.
On Saturday, the lamb steak is prepared and Easter bread is baked for the church service.
Saturday night to Sunday is about the Resurrection of the Lord - the locals go to the church where they receive the Light.
The next day, Sunday, all the villagers go to church with baskets full of food to be consecrated by the priest. At the end of the Mass, people share with each other what they have prepared for Easter.
We are waiting for you in a private Easter tour in Maramures, a unique experience in Romania!
