Fortified Citadel AND CHURCH FROM PREJMER - UNESCO

Fortified Citadel AND CHURCH FROM PREJMER - UNESCO

Teutonic knights started the construction of this citadel after receiving the land from the Hungary’s King, in 1211. They chose the plan in Greek cross from the Gothic church, with all four sides equal. The church’s altar is one of the oldest in the Transylvanian region. Teutonic knights quarreled with the king and left, but obviously they continued to build their citadel. They built 272 pantries, arranged on four levels, pantries where they arranged their supplies and dwelled against Turkish and Tartars invasion. Prejmer Citadel, an UNESCO monument, proved to be unbeaten, despite of the dozens invasions.
