FORTIFIED CHURCH FROM ȘAROȘ PE TARNAVE

ȘaroÈ™ town on Târnave is documentary attested since 1282. The Gothic church with three aisles was raised in the first half of the 14th century, but in the next century the village and the church were destroyed by the invaders. The Saxons rebuilt and fortified the church, completing it in 1422, when it was sanctified by an envoy of the Pope. Over the centuries, the village had long suffered because of the invasions, only five families remaining in the village by the end of the 17th century. The Church was renovated in the next century; the tower was raised, receiving its current look.
