MOCANIȚA FROM VIȘEU DE SUS

Traveling with MocaniÈ›a you'll get a dream travel, over a wild area of MaramureÈ™, like the former woodcutters. The forest narrow gauge railway of 76 inches accompanies Vaser Valey for almost 22 kilometers, between ViÈ™eu de Sus and Paltinu station. It is the single railway from Europe still using steam engines for the lodge transport, the oldest dating from 1910. In fact, MocaniÈ›a was built during 1924-1932, and ever since it has been working without interruption, remaining the only means of access to the forest holdings in the area. In 2005, MocaniÈ›a’s owners took the initiative to introduce wagons for tourists. Vaser River is the permanent companion of MocaniÈ›a passing over bridges and through tunnels, through endless forests, where the only inhabitants are the bears and wolves.
