Sibiu Medieval City - Always a delight!

Sibiu is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Romania. More than 900 years ago, the Saxons settled in Transylvania at the request of the Hungarian king and developed this area. The German name of Sibiu is Hermanstad.

The Saxon community in Transylvania flourished, but in the 80s and 90s, most of the Saxons left Romania. At that time, Romania was under the tyranny of the communist regime, and the living conditions were terrible. The chance of the Saxons was for them to go to West Germany.

Sibiu remained a wonderful city, and in 2007 it was designated the Cultural Capital of Europe, the year Romania joined the European Union. Ample restoration works took place in Sibiu during that period. Today, Sibiu is a top travel destination in Eastern Europe.
