RASNOV CITADEL

RASNOV CITADEL

Built in 1225, Rasnov citadel is one of the best preserved citadels from Transylvania. The first documentary attestation comes from 1355, when the citadel was under siege by the Tatars but it resisted. The citadel faced other three Turkish invasions. The citadel’s walls are built on the land’s model and have 5 meters height. Parts of the Saxons’ houses are kept inside the citadel – there are 83 rooms that provided shelter during the troubled times.
