VĂRATEC AND AGAPIA MONASTERIES
Placed in a natural exceptional frame, Agapia and Varatec monasteries are the biggest nun monasteries in Romania. Varatec monastery was established in 1785 from the order of Saint Paisie Velicicovski in Piatra Neamț. Agapia Monastery, founded in 1585, was painted in the 19th century by a great Romanian painter, Nicolae Grigorescu. A walk through the two monastery villages, framed by the white clean, full of flowers houses of the nuns, is a real delight.
